Carla Overbeck is the captain of the 1999 World Champion U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team, and an Olympic gold medalist. Born on May 9, 1968, in Pasadena, California, she is a graduate of the University of North Carolina, and calls Dallas, Texas, her hometown. Captain of the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Championship Team. The "Cal Ripken Jr." of the U.S. Soccer National Teams program, she began the year of 1997 having played 63 consecutive international games, a record for any U.S. National Team player, man or woman. Her streak started August 4, 1993, in a game against New Zealand. A finalist for the 1995 Women’s Sports Foundation Athlete of the Year in a group that included Bonnie Blair, Steffi Graf, Picabo Street, and Rebecca Lobo

Named to Soccer America’s freshman team of the year, and received All-America honors her sophomore, junior, and senior years while at UNC. Attended Richardson High School in Dallas, Texas, where she played volleyball and basketball.
